Rural tourism in China has shown strong recovery, with bookings for homestays becoming especially popular. According to data shared this month by Fliggy, Alibaba’s travel-services platform, bookings for domestic homestays have been recovering since last April, and the overall booking volume by last August had reached almost equivalent levels to 2019. Compared with May 2020, the number of homestay bookings on Fliggy doubled in December 2020.

Many homestays across the country boast sophisticated lodging facilities and are surrounded by plenty to see and do, from stunning natural sights to wellness-boosting activities. With spring approaching, these idyllic getaways have become the destinations of choice for many travelers, especially those from urban cities.

To help homestays capture success, not only are they covered as part of Fliggy’s subsidy program, the platform has also launched a dedicated channel for these lodgings as well as online agency-operation services for owners of small and mid-sized businesses. On March 3, Fliggy also rolled out a special homestay livestream and online festival to help these businesses better connect with travelers.
