China’s domestic tourism has witnessed a robust rebound since Tomb-sweeping Day in early April. Given the restrictions from pandemic on international travels, Chinese tourists are turning to local destinations and many are starting to make plans for the upcoming May 1-5 Labor Day break.

Adding a fun twist to this year’s holiday, Alibaba Group’s travel-services arm, Fliggy, has launched mystery box tickets – a play on the popular toy trend that sees products hidden in mystery packaging. For just RMB66, customers can purchase mystery boxes with plane tickets to a plethora of destinations across mainland China, including plenty of popular tourist spots, making it a fun and exciting way to spend the holidays for those who cannot decide on where to go or for thrill-seekers who love venturing into the unknown.

These mystery boxes are rolled out in limited quantities every day and contain tickets for solo or pairs of travelers. The tickets allow customers to decide on the places of departure but offers surprises in terms of destinations and departure dates, which are set within three to 30 days of the ticket purchase.
